Today’s project is a Slim Sayings Gate Fold birthday card!
I love a bold sentiment, don’t you? The sentiments in the Slim Sayings stamp set are fabulous! Here’s the stamp set:
With a bold sentiment, I wanted a simple, clean card to go with it! My favorite Stampin’ Up! color family is the Brights, so I just couldn’t stop at one! How about a rainbow of cards?
Do you have a favorite color family? I always recommend new stampers start with the color family that they gravitate towards the most, then slowly build their collection of other colors.
This gate fold card is super simple to create! Start with a 4-1/4″ x 11″ piece of cardstock and score along the 11″ side at 3″ and 8-1/2″. When folded and burnished, you’ll instantly create a “gate”! This is a great card for making multiples, because of the size of the additional layers on the card – you can really maximize your cuts! Here’s how the gate fold opens:
The larger Basic White layer is 3-1/4″ x 4-1/4″, which means you can get 6 pieces from one sheet of 8-1/2″ x 11″. The Designer Series Paper piece measures 3″ x 4″, which means you can get 12 pieces out of a sheet of 12″ x 12″ patterned paper or 2 out of a sheet of 6″ x 6″ patterned paper. These were my customer thank you notes for March orders!
The bold sentiment fits perfectly on a 3/4″ x 4-1/4″ strip of Basic White, which you can cut 28 pieces out of one sheet of 8-1/2″ x 11″ (29 if you cut strategically!). How about you… do you like making multiples of cards? What are your best tips/tricks?
For some extra oomph, I layered a heart punch behind the sentiment and added an Iridescent Rhinestone to finish it off. LOVE!

- Cardstock base – 4-1/4″ x 11″, scored along the long side at 3″ and 8-1/2″
- Basic White outside layer – 3-1/4″ x 4-1/4″
- Designer Series Paper layer – 3″ x 4″

- Basic White inside layer – 4″ x 5-1/4″
