How Do You Store Embellishments?

Hi my dear blog followers! I need your help! I’m off work the rest of this week and have plans to do a little bit of organizing – primarily of my Stampin’ Up! embellishments!

For a while now, I’ve used Iris Photo Cases, which I have really loved, but they take up a lot of space, which is a big deal for us crafters! So, I’d love to hear from you… what do you use to store your Stampin’ Up! adhesive-backed embellishments (think rhinestones, pearls, sequins, glitter dots, etc.)?

Here’s what my embellishment storage looks like now (on the right side of the photo):

(please ignore the out of order dies – LOL! – true life here!)

Leave a comment and let me know if you have a storage system for your embellishments that you love! Once I decide on a new embellishment storage system, I’ll share it with you!

  1. Hey Julie,
I use our stamp boxes, either the regular size or the double one. I make a divider and sometimes I take the packaging out and just leave the name part on the inside. Then I label my boxes on the edge so I know what’s in them. I probably don’t have as many as you, but it works for me.

  2. I picked up a double sided hanging jewelry bag with 24 clear pockets on each side. I have SU on one side and non Su on the other. I can see at a glance what I have!

  3. i ordered several of the advent calendars from stampin up and used DSP to match my craft room. I use this for embellishments. I punch a 1″ circle and glue one of the embellishments on it. For the larger ones I use a drawer unit from Stamp-n-storage The drawer unit holds my magnets, velcro, doilies, etc. This has worked well for me and was relatively inexpensive.

  5. Good morning, everyone! Years ago (before Stampin’ Up), I stored embellishments in plastic baseball card boxes. I still store brads and other loose embellishments in that fashion. The boxes came in three different sizes. And, of course, I label the side of the boxes (cannot live without my label machine). As for the bling, I really liked Donna Gotsch’s idea of using the plastic envelopes the dies come in. I do not store the dies in those envelopes, but always keep the envelopes. I’m gonna’ try her system! Sure beats my “messy drawer” system…..

    HAPPY NEW YEAR to all!!!!!!

  6. I use the Stampin Up full stamp cases and label them. I just store mind in a deep drawer with the labels in view. Seems to work for me. My extras are kept separately in a drawer, when I run out a particular embellishment I refill my case.

  7. I have switched all of mine over to the half wood mount boxes and store them in the SU open storage cubes. I am liking it a lot! I keep my memories and more card sets in a full wood mount box next to all of that on my Kallax shelf.

  8. The photo box with covers from Michaels, hobby lobby, they fit gr8, place pack on their side, i also use these photo boxes for my stamp cases, the fit, horozontal, gr8. I buy themed boxes, like Christmas for Christmas stamp sets etc.

  9. I recently changed my system from using the stamp cases (too much bulk) to storing the embellishments in the plastic cases that our dies come in. They fit several packages in each one and they are much less bulky. I use my label maker to name each packet. I now have most of mine in a small basket right next to my work space and it is a really easy access.

  10. Yours looks a lot better than mine! I am buried in embellishments. I think the answer for me is not to buy anymore that really isn’t the answer because new, pretty, cute ones keep coming out. Also I am NOT a disciplined shopper when it comes to buying card/craft supplies! Obviously I was no help to you…

  11. I use to store embellishments in various containers until I was able to buy the Scraprack. It is a open binder like system on an angled metal stand (rack). Plastic 12×12 pages of different pocket configurations provide storage for small to large embellishments, card fronts, tags, etc. Everything in one place! Organized with dividers to quickly flip to the section you want. I may want a little something to complete a project and am able to very quickly find it. Love my scrap rack. Added bonus when I buy new embellishments I’m able to quickly put them away. Everything in one condensed area. My Scraprack sits on a countertop and takes up about 50” long x 14” wide.
Always ready for me to flip through.
A little pricy but worth it. Really was a great buy.
FYI: I have no affiliation to Scraprack and will not benefit from my post.

  12. I guess it is a matter of volume- I have one or two wide cases that a put all my open packages of embellishments in so they get used before I open another package. It allows me to see what I haven’t used in awhile and what I haven’t used much at all since I pretty much see all my choices every time I open my case. I also only have one or two packages of each of the embellishment so I don’t have to store a lot of extra.
What I have seen by other demos is using the clear mount cases for their embellishments and labeling them along the spine like your iris cases with whatever is in there. They are the same size as all the other containers on their shelves and it always looks neat and tidy, they can be organized alphabetically and if you want, you can possibly store related products together (epoxy shapes, colored rhinestones, holiday catalog, mini catalog). It just depends on how you think of your embellishments and how you decide to market them in your business
Good luck with your organization journey. If you find something that works, go buy a lottery ticket because you will be ONE LUCKY CRAFTER!

  13. Julie, I use the same cases as you, only I also have the handled case they fit in. I just love it for organization. I have enough embellishments to fill 2 of them!

  14. Good Morning Julie,
I keep all my embellishments in one full-size stamp case, with dividers. Ha. Ha. Ha. I have a microscopic amount compared to you. Would they work in the same die envelopes you are using? It looks like that would save some space.
I am looking forward to seeing how others store their embellishments too.
    Have a blessed day.

  15. Why not a pretty box from JoAnn Fabric for all your sequins and gems and just file them in that. That way they can move easily where you are working. Adds color to the work area. The trinkets and such leave in their little containers they come in. Perhaps a cracker basket would hold them.

  16. I wish I was as organized as you. Since I am fairly new to this all of my embellishments are in a box and I have to dig for them. I hate that but am still trying to organize. I am looking forward to seeing your system. I love the way it looks now.
